If you re starting up a new online venture, you are possibly going to try hundreds of things to promote your offers before something will start to “really work” for you.

It is although important to remember that nobody makes money online by scheduling one or two one-off campaigns.

First of all you will need to test different campaigns, and then tweak them to achieve maximum efficiency. The most common mistake people make when they start a business is that they will start doing too many things at the same time without mastering any of the promotion methods or allowing their campaigns to flourish and be able to get statistics and conversion figures.

The second thing online marketers get wrong is that they do assume there are guaranteed methods to promote and make money online and that if they do everything by the recipe they cannot go wrong. The truth is that there is no “one proven method” but there are literally hundreds, and they are not guaranteed at all. So the only way to go around this problem is to test and tweak your online promotions yourself.

The success of your online marketing is only going to depend on you. You need to try and get everything right as soon as possible to be able to maximize your online profits. It may sound like a difficult stuff to do, but it is really not that hard.

To maximize your online profits, you first need to choose your promotional offers wisely. If you are working for CPA networks you need to pick the ones with good payment history, name and reputation, as well as great affiliate management and payment structure. You can actually look around on the internet marketing forums, blogs, to read other affiliate marketers' testimonials.

If you decide to become a direct affiliate of a merchant instead, it is also useful to check out reviews of their products, affiliate program and if it is an electronic product they are marketing, you can feel free to request a review copy.

The next hing you can do is to make sure you read the terms and conditions , and check if the offers you wish to promote do comply with the latest FTC regulations.

You also need to choose your offers carefully, but I do not advise you to dip into more than two niches at a time. It is wise to start with freebies or free trial offers in the beginning, as the conversions will keep you motivated in the first weeks, while if you go for sales offers, you might need to wait for a conversion for longer than you wish.

Choose your promotion methods wisely as well. By minimizing the upfront cost of setting up your own online business you will actually start making money and profit without losing on paid ads that do not work. Check out if statistics are available: how other people are doing with the same offer, only to get a guide for your future profitability and conversion rates.

Affiliate marketing is easy once you found the methods that work for you. The time it takes to master affiliate marketing depends on your willingness to learn and also your decisions. Don’t take anything for granted when it comes to online advertising, things change very quickly, so you need to make changes, too as you go along. Something that used to be hot 2 years ago and you read about it in an e book might not work today, or work differently.

The problem with most of the trainings is that they are only covering the general methods and don’t go into details when it comes to a method of affiliate marketing. As there are literally hundreds of methods to achieve affiliate marketing success, it would be a very long book to cover ev ery single method. So those “so called” gurus are only covering the methods that work for them, that are not necessarily the methods that will work for you, too.

Not all the methods will work the same for you, so the key to success is testing. You need to find one that is in line with your personality, and abilities, as well. Many people find some traffic generation techniques boring, or too complicated, that is why about 90% of people starting with for example Adwords will fail, as they have no patience for testing and researching the keywords. If you are this kind of person, don’t even go there, or you will end up losing money instead of making affiliate revenue. Although, if you are the kind of person who loves sharing and communicates well, social media would be your piece of pie.

Before you spend a huge amount of money on advertising it is always useful to test an offer on free traffic. That is a rule I have started to apply long ago and it has already saved me a lot of money. If I am sending out a free solo email for my list for example and it turns out to be a success, I might consider buying e-zine spots and advertise that way. Although if not, I can still do split-test campaigns, therefore maximize conversions before I am paying for traffic.

You need to make sure that you are tracking your results and improving your methods that bring in the most traffic and revenue while getting rid of the methods that are not working. If you are involved in CPA affilaite marketing, it will be really easy by signing up to a free account on Tracking 202, that will give you the statistics you need in order to make the positive changes. If you are not advertising CPA offers, but are involved in other affiliate programs, there are loads of tracking systems you can use that will give you IP addresses, exact time of the visit and also the referring source.

It is only you who will be able to learn and master the methods, nobody will give you an exact blueprint that will be guaranteed to work for your offers. Therefore pay attention to the details, keep track of your conversions and test and tweak pages continuously.

A great percentage of people who start affiliate marketing give up. The reason is that many of the new marketers are told from the beginning that making money online is as easy as a push of a button. They expect to make money overnight and if it doesn't happen they give up. The truth is: affiliate marketing is a game, and as every game: can be mastered with practice and time.

We have already gone through a couple of mistakes and pitfalls you would like to try and avoid in order to succeed in affiliate marketing. Here is the second, but not least important part of the list of things you have to pay close attention to.

Sixth tip to avoid Affiliate Marketing Failure

Testing is the key. An average affiliate marketer tests about 20-80 different offers and creatives (banner, contextual ad, email, etc) until they find “the one” that perfectly suits their content and converts very well. The key is (at least it works for me absolutely fine) that you test all your offers on free traffic first, in order to avoid losing loads of money on affiliate offers that don't work. Forget the Gurus' advice and don't go for PPC unless you are an absolute expert, because you are more than likely to lose money. Test your offers with free traffic (solo emails, contextual ads, generic SEO) and if it converts, carefully set up a paid affiliate promotion campaign.

Seventh tip to avoid Affiliate Marketing Failure

Make sure you read the affiliate agreement before you sign up as an affiliate for either a CPA network, or any other program directly. You have to know exactly which promotion methods are allowed, which disclaimers and unsubscribe information do you have to include in the solo emails you are going to send out for your affiliate offers. It is also your responsibility to study the related FTC regulations in order to avoid being flagged as spammer or fraudulent affiliate marketer, and remember: if you get banned from one affiliate network, you are more than likely to get banned from all, as affiliate programs share information about “bad affiliates”.

Eighth tip to avoid Affiliate Marketing Failure

Always try to make your offers unique. Have you seen the same offer elsewhere, maybe as a Google Adwords ad over and over again? You have to make sure that your headlines are spot on and not a copy of the standard network recommendation. Also if you have a brand new offer under testing, and it gets loads of conversions, make sure you speed up your campaign for the affiliate offer first of all to dominate the market with your unique offer faster, secondly because your target niche has to be sent your promotion by you and not other affiliates who will soon also discover the offer. But try to make your offers unique, avoid promoting the same old programs that are advertised by super affiliates as well for a long time. If your affiliate offer's conversion rate drops, you don't have to stop promoting, it is often enough to change the headline or the email text.

Ninth tip to avoid Affiliate Marketing Failure

Avoid black hat methods. You might visit some affiliate forums, where people offer tips to make outrageous commissions by cheating the system. You have to remember that there are tools and methods to automate your affiliate marketing business, they are only fine if they are legal and fair to the customer. Avoid misleading headlines, false promises, fake testimonials in any way. Your customers are not silly and they will see through the lies eventually. Using back hat methods is preventing affiliate marketers from building their customer base and improving their credibility within the niche.

Tenth tip to avoid Affiliate Marketing Failure

It is OK to generate leads for other people for money. It is also all right to send them traffic. But as you are trying to build your affiliate business here, which should be your first priority, you should consider setting up your system capturing leads for your own list before sending people to a merchant's landing page. List building is one of the most important long term aspects of a successful affiliate business. Just imagine that you made 40 dollars on a person, and you lost him. The merchant has their details, but you will never have the chance to sell them anything else in the future.

Online Marketing

A great percentage of people who start affiliate marketing give up. The reason is that many of the new marketers are told from the beginning that making money online is as easy as a push of a button. They expect to make money overnight and if it doesn't happen they give up. The truth is: affiliate marketing is a game, and as every game: can be mastered with practice and time.

First tip to avoid Affiliate Marketing Failure

Be realistic. Although there are many people in the world who are making outrageous money from affiliate commissions, you have to realize that they did not become successful overnight. They had to overcome difficulties, obstacles, and they are successful because they are ready for changing old methods and testing new things. You are definitely not equal to them yet as a newbie affiliate marketer, so don't try to compare yourself to them. But yu can definitely learn from them.

Second tip to avoid Affiliate Marketing Failure

It all comes down to a business plan. As with every business, also with affiliate marketing planning has a huge impact on success or failure. You have to plan everything carefully, from budgeting to the most important aspect: promotional channels. If you are setting up a website, you have to decide on which niche you are targeting and choose your keywords carefully before even buying the domain.

Third tip to avoid Affiliate Marketing Failure

Avoid broad targeting of niches, especially in niches that are highly competitive. You have to do your research beforehand and find a question you can provide answers or solutions for, to target a specific segment of the niche. For example if you wanted to enter the weight loss niche you would face a huge competition, so the only way to succeed is to find a specialty product that will solve a common problem of people within the niche. For example you can go for products like: “hypnotherapy for weight loss” or “yoga weight loss exercises” targeting specific keywords. (I haven't checked these keywords so this is not a recommendation).

Fourth tip to avoid Affiliate Marketing Failure

Choose your products carefully. You can check for products before you set up your affiliate promotions, make sure that there is a competitive product available. If you are selling information products, it is almost evident that there is an e-book for everything, so your job is easy. Next you have to view the landing page, with the eyes of your customer. Is it appealing enough to make people buy? Is any information left out? Does it comply with the FTC regulations? Does it closely relate to your content? There is nothing more annoying than a website stuffed with irrelevant ads and banners.

Fifth to avoid Affiliate Marketing Failure

Always track your results. You must know where your sales or sign ups are coming from. You must track your conversions as well as your traffic sources. Google will give you a good idea of the high impact keywords, and the searches related to your site or promotion. Affiliate marketing is all about testing different offers, traffic sources and methods. Without this information you will be unable to tweak your promotions in order to optimize your affiliate marketing performance.

Many people struggle building their list online as they are not html gurus

and also there is a huge competition out there. If you are starting a list

building campaign, the effectiveness is determined by the planning.

You have to locate where people can be found online who are eager to get

the information or solution you can offer; eager enough to sign up for your

list or e-zine. Remember to always do your research first, and then make

sure that you target the right people with the interest that suits your content.

Safelists are often considered tools of the past, but the statement is absolutely

not true! They have undergone some major changes recently, and that means

they got better and more effective than ever, when it comes to solo email advertising;

basically these guys running the safelists don't want to go out of business, with

a list of often more than ten thousand. They had to find a solution to deliver their

promises when it comes to effective solo ads, and making sure that people joining

their sites will get great results delivered for list building and branding campaigns.

They recently installed many anti-cheat features, to keep the lists clean and

spam-free.

I am using a combination of safelist, traffic exchange and text ad exchange

solo advertising to get subscribers to various lists, and after testing many

squeeze pages, I have to admit: I love this free way to post solo ads and

I recently saw a sign-up rate of 7% for one of my affiliate offers, that was clearly

surprising, as you wouldn't expect it to be so high if people are just clicking

for credits. The secret here is: what do you offer people.

The majority of people make a huge mistake by trying to sell ice for the Eskimos.

Let me explain: People on the safelists are looking for subscribers as well as you,

so they are not seriously considering joining one of your sites, unless you offer them

a solution, answer or tool that can better their business. So if you try to sell Eskimos

fishing tools for example instead of ice, they might be interested.

And these people advertising on safelists are really keen on improving

their business, therefore a well targeted solo ad can become very effective.

Anyone who told you that safelists are dead, was wrong or did it absolutely wrong.

The only way solo advertising is going to help with your list building is if you

make up a careful plan on what are you going to promote (I wouldn't use safelists

or free solos for sales pages) and have to have your squeeze page ready with

a series of solo e-zine ads that are closely related to the squeeze page they

signed up from. If you promise people a free download, please make sure that

it gets delivered, check your download page before you send out your solo ad,

and prepare a “thank you email” with the download link in just in case.

Solo advertising is actually a way to legally steal other people's list

(safelists, traffic exchanges or text ad exchanges) and put those people on your list.

So if you are posting free solo ads on safelists and text ad exchanges

you are leaving money on the table.

Next, find out how you can master free solo advertising, too in 7 days!

Affiliate marketing can be learned as you go along. There are no proven blueprints that will work equally for everyone. There are, although proven affiliate methods that are more profitable than others, and using them increases your chances to succeed in affiliate marketing.

When you are starting up an online promotion and trying to enter a new niche, you have to bear in mind, that people within the niche choose to be acting like old ladies. Let me explain: old ladies are sentimental, They don't really like new things. They go to the shop where people smile at them, have been there for a long time and recognize their customers. That's the case when we are talking about any kind of niche. Folks are sentimental. They don't pay for products, they purchase ideas and people. They love personality.

Therefore if you wish to position yourself perfectly within the given niche, there are a couple of affairs you have to bear in mind before you enter. Plenty of marketers just take internet marketing as a hobby, never really treat it as a business, therefore they cannot generate a full time income from home. As with almost every kind of business, within internet marketing as well you will need a business plan. And the develop your business and promotion plan is the best way you can start before positioning yourself in your chosen niche.

I know that seems scarier than it is: the best choice to establish a stunning affiliate website for your CPA offers is to go for Wordpress. You pay for your keyword rich domain name, and install Wordpress on it, therefore it becomes SEO friendly. You need a site that is and can be proven to be be updated regularly, and has fresh article blogs all the time grabbing search engines' and visitors' attention.

After creating keyword rich blogs to your site you can actually begin recycling your publications as a free of charge report, e book, in order to create your targeted subscribers list that are interested in the fix you might provide for their problems. By creating a gratis promotional product you are able to gain trust, and by selling further information you are going to be able to create a good income source and establish a paid customer base as well for further affiliate products you could have.

You might go with any affiliate item that you think is going to suit your website, but remember: internet marketing is almost all about testing and tweaking the offers, and changing, swapping over ads if needed in order to maximize affiliate affiliate revenue. You actually form increasing number of harm than comprehensible if you stick with some offer that doesn't convert.

In addition to producing content, you could participate in your niche's forums and write well chosen answers to posts, further positioning yourself as someone who is an expert making sure you are not spamming the niche. I realize that this niche blueprint looks simple enough, and the truth is that this is not at all a push button technique: you will be required to work hard, keep up your attitude and keep your ideas fresh, your effort will be rewarded. But if you get stuck, there are many resources online to seek for help.

Many people initially make the mistake of concentrating on too many things at the same time. Remember: the most successful affiliate marketers use one or two promotion methods, they tested themselves and managed to master with time. Don't make that mistake, take action as soon as possible.

Try not to focus on many things, and be consistent. The 90% of the game is won by participating and being relevant. Once you establish yourself in your niche, and managed to increase your authority, you can tweak test and improve your affiliate methods.

So you are looking for a way to make affiliate commissions without investing a dime? Loads of people are disappointed in MLM and pilot schemes on the internet, especially the ones that require huge investment and you have to wait for ages and work extra hard to get your investment back or generate any profit. Some of these people nowadays turn to CPA networks, websites that pick the best offers for them to promote and pay commissions per lead or sale (CPA = Cost Per Action or Cost Per acquisition). Starting up with CPA marketing isn't so easy though, I am trying to give you a step-by-step guide here how to get started easily without the pitfalls.

Affiliate Step 1: Get accepted

In order to become a Publisher of a CPA network you have to submit an application. This is not at all different than job applications, you have to convince the network that you will be a great asset for their organization, you know your job, and you have the knowledge and tools to generate leads and sales. If you make them money then you will make money too...

It helps if you have a website and don't send the application from a free email address. You have to look as professional as possible. Domain names start at $0.99 I think, and if you can afford, you can improve your chances with taking a pre-owned website. Alternatively if you have a niche blog on Wordpress or Blogger, that has good content and steady traffic, you can still get accepted.

After you send in your application you can expect them to call you. Although, you can contact them as well, and even if they decline your application in email, you can call them and ask them to revise their decision.

You have to be extra-professional on the phone, and extra confident. You have to have the answers for the most common questions like:

How long have you been doing internet marketing?

Are you with any other companies?

What are your main traffic sources?

Which niche are you planning to target?

How do you drive traffic to your website?

Don't apply for more than three networks at a time. Don't get disappointed, if they refuse your application at the first time, apply with other networks, and save the ones that declined you for later, you can always re-apply.

Affiliate Step 2: You're in: now what?

The first thing you would like to do is to introduce yourself to your dedicated affiliate manager. These people see the performance of all the campaigns, see the conversions, and usually have a great asset: experience. They oversee sometimes hundreds of affiliates' traffic generation and “offer selection” methods, so it is always a good thing to keep up a good relationship with them.

They usually contact you when you get accepted, but if not, you have to send them an email. You can always ask for recommendations and tips as well.

Next you have to familiarize yourself with the affiliate interface of the network. If there is a training video or FAQ page, it is worth to go through it before you start picking offers and promoting.

It is very important to read through the Publishers Policy, to see what traffic generation methods are prohibited, and for example how to know if the offer can be incentivized. You also have to know what is the minimum payment threshold and how and when will you get paid.

Affiliate Step 3: Picking offers

The most important decision is to pick the best converting offers of the network. Remember, this is somewhat depending on the affiliates too, but you will get a great idea of conversions if you check out the published statistics on the site. This will give you an idea how much other people are making on the particular offer.

There are two main categories you can choose from: lead campaigns and sale campaigns. Lead campaigns are easy to start with, conversion will depend on the offer, the landing page and the information required from the person who signs up. The easiest and most popular offers are ZIP or email submits, but you have to get loads of traffic on these offers if you want to earn more than peanuts. They very rarely pay more than $1.50. There are also good offers with 2 page submits, that pay over £15 but obviously they are harder to promote. It requires much more commitement from a potential customer to fill out two pages.

You can also try the trial offers, they are really popular among affiliates, the bottom line is: Customer pays shipping and handling fee, and you get much more than the customer's cost. It is important to read the related articles of the new FTC Regulation regarding to free trials, before you start promoting one of these offers.

Affiliate tip No 4: Driving traffic

You can choose between direct linking (driving traffic to your affiliate link directly) i-framing, or putting your offer on your site. I always use a link tracker, to see how many visits I got, and from which traffic source. Some CPA networks give you this information on-site when you run your statistics, but if you don't like logging in to all the networks daily, link tracking is the best solution.

You can also choose the right creative for your offer, there are usually different size banners, text links, Call to Actions, emails. Find the one that looks the most appealing to you, and suits your traffic sources.

You can test your campaign on free traffic first, and if you are happy with the conversion, you can go for media buying, PPC, PPV campaigns. There are loads of free traffic generation tactics, like article marketing, sending offers to your own list, search engine optimization, but be aware that some networks don't accept social media traffic.

Affiliate tip No 5: Tracking and cashing in

It is vital in affiliate marketing to track your campaign's performance. Run your campaigns for a week or so, and run your statistics on the affiliate interface. If you had about a hundred targeted visitors to an offer and it hasn't converted yet, try to change your campaign is you can. But if you are confident that your campaign set up and traffic was fine, immediately stop promoting the offer and pick another one for testing. Please note: you have to analyze your traffic sources first, especially when you see that other affiliates' EPC (Earnings Per Click) is sky-high and you got no conversion. Check your geo-targeting, your keywords, and the competition. If you think that you did everything right, there is a chance that the campaign has been picked up by experienced super-affiliates who are much better in PPC than you, and you cannot compete with them. But you can still find another campaign that is easier to promote and less competitive.

Once you removed the worst performing offers from your portfolio and replaced them, you have to duplicate the traffic on your best performing offers. Send them as many visitors as you can, keep on analyzing the performance, and you're on the right path. Not for long till you get your first commission check, is it?
